Georgia Connections Academy is a tuition-free, full-time virtual school for students in grades 5-12 throughout Georgia. The school is authorized by the Georgia Charter Schools Commission and governed by an independent Board of Directors, with a mission to maximize academic achievement for students who are seeking other academic options. The school is operated by Georgia Connections Academy, a nonprofit corporation, through a contract with Connections Academy of Georgia, LLC, to provide its educational program and other services.

Position Summary and Responsibilities:

Working from our office in Duluth, Georgia, or from your home in Georgia, the ESOL Teacher at any Connections Academy school is responsible for understanding and communicating the needs of and regulations related to English Learners enrolled in the school. The ESOL Teacher must be highly qualified to provide instruction to English Language Students and hold the appropriate state certifications or endorsements.

This role involves teaching as well as navigating compliance with state and federal procedures. This position will also assist the Federal Programs Director in maintaining reliable and accurate data and files kept for the purpose of federal and state reports regarding ESOL.

  • Creating the individual EL plans, conducting Live Lessons (teaching sessions) helping students improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and monitoring students exited within past 4 years.
  • Planning, preparing and delivering lessons
  • Tracking, documenting, and sending EL communication to families to inform them of their student’s EL status and progress
  • Holding conferences with families at the beginning, end of the year, and as needed
  • Checking and assessing pupils' classwork
  • Managing and organizing screening and ACCESS testing with Testing Director
  • Proctor and travel for EL assessments
  • Attending social events (i.e. field trips, school events)
  • Complete grading in a timely manner to communicate student progress to students and parents;
  • Communicate frequently with parents, students and other teachers on a regular basis to provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, monitor completion of assignments and coach special projects;
  • Support students and parents with strategies for success in a virtual environment and provide assistance with assignments and projects as needed;
  • Support the instructional program with synchronous and asynchronous lessons, recordings, and instructional materials;
  • Review curriculum and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to increase student understanding (working directly with students and parents);
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers to review data and develop instructional strategies to address students at all levels
  • Host Parent Engagement sessions for parents
  • Assist and attend with the Director of Federal Programs various required meetings and conferences related to Title III or ESOL
  • Assists Director of Federal Program with assigned school initiatives
  • Perform general clerical duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Highly qualified and certified to teach ESOL
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft OS and MS Office programs)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment
  • Team player track record; ability to collaborate
  • Customer focused approach
  • Ability to work independently and remotely
  • Travel for ACCESS testing or screening (may require overnight travel)
  • Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support some families
  • One or more years experience as an ESOL Teacher
  • Must be able to use a personal electronic device and an email address for two-step authentication
