Roadway Construction Inspector
Location:
Duluth, GA – service projects around the Metro Atlanta area.
We are seeking experienced professionals for an advanced level inspector position supporting engineers in roadway and structure construction acceptance inspection, materials sampling and testing verification. Employees will support engineers and lead inspectors in managing construction activities on large complex projects, making decisions and providing guidance to others.
Job Responsibilities- Conduct independent or moderately complex inspections of roadway and structural construction to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
- Inspect and test materials such as soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete for quality and proper mix.
- Evaluate pavement for correct spreading, rolling, depth, alignment, and compaction.
- Inspect roadways and structures for conformance to approved plans and specifications.
- Monitor structural components and operations, including foundation excavation, placement of culverts, piling, reinforcing steel, structural steel, concrete, and backfill.
- Monitor the installation and maintenance of traffic control and erosion control devices.
- Perform complex calculations and field measurements for contract documentation and pay item verification.
- Maintain accurate and complete project documentation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Construction Management and two (2) years of progressive transportation technician experience;
- or 2‑year degree in Civil Engineering Technology and five (5) years of progressive transportation technician experience;
- or High School diploma or GED and seven (7) years of progressive transportation technician experience;
- or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
- Preferred
Certifications:- GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control)
- GDOT WECS
- GDOT Field Concrete Technician or ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Certification
- Thorough knowledge of specifications and standards, acceptable construction practices, materials, methods and equipment used in highway construction and engineering.
- Ability to read and comprehend construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, inspection procedures, and all other documents associated with the project.
- Thorough knowledge of mathematical functions, including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric calculations related to highway/transportation engineering.
- Shall possess a valid Georgia Driver's license.
