The Opportunity

Tetra Tech is looking for a full-time Jr. Environmental Scientist or Engineer based out of our Duluth, GA office.

Position Summary

This position will provide technical support in emergency response, removal assessment, and removal action. The candidate will support a range of environmental projects, including emergency response with significant travel and on‑call support.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain on‑call readiness to handle emergency responses and provide remedial and restoration guidance/solutions to clients in the southeastern United States.
  • Plan and oversee operations and site health and safety.
  • Conduct multi‑media sampling, field audits and inspections, organize and review data, prepare reports, file reviews, collect air monitoring data, provide training and exercise support, oversee contractors, and perform related services.
  • Work for other government and private sector clients in these areas is also possible.
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in environmental science or related degree required.
  • 0‑5 years experience in environmental consulting, Haz Mat response, or related field required.
  • Geotechnical laboratory testing (soil and concrete), ACI certification for concrete testing, or ability to obtain soon after employment.
  • Strong emergency response and remediation management skills with the ability to respond quickly within mandatory response times.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Highly motivated, customer focused, and able to work well in a team environment.
  • Capable of managing a heavy workload, traveling, and being on‑call as needed.
  • Excellent communication, client interaction, and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license and good standing required; passing a motor vehicle record background check required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with remedial design, feasibility studies, hazardous waste, site investigations, site remediation, field sampling, air quality, ecological restoration, and water resources.
  • Previous experience working on EPA projects.
  • Expertise in training curriculum development and implementation.
  • GIS data analysis, geo‑statistics, coding (VBA, Python, etc.), and data management skills.
  • 40‑hour OSHA, IEC or related training, or demonstrated first responder (environmental emergency response) experience.
  • Asbestos certification.
Physical Requirements

Employee is required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; taste or smell. Vision abilities include close distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Capable of lifting and moving objects up to 40 pounds.

Primary work environment is office/field with occasional travel to client sites and other locations. Conditions may include weather exposure and varying terrain. Some occasional evening and/or weekend work and/or travel may be required.
