Atlas is seeking experienced Roadway/Bridge Construction Inspectors to join our Quality Management and Construction Inspection team. In this role, you will support the inspection and acceptance of roadway and bridge construction projects by ensuring work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and contract requirements. Working alongside engineers and senior inspection staff, you will perform field inspections, materials testing, documentation, and compliance monitoring on complex transportation projects.
This position requires strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality infrastructure projects for our clients and communities.
- Perform independent roadway and structural construction inspections to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, and project requirements.
- Inspect and test construction materials, including soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete, to verify quality and proper composition.
- Evaluate pavement operations for proper spreading, rolling, alignment, depth, and compaction.
- Inspect roadway and bridge construction activities to confirm conformance with approved plans, specifications, and industry standards.
- Monitor structural construction operations, including foundation excavation, culvert installation, piling, reinforcing steel, structural steel, concrete placement, and backfill activities.
- Monitor the installation and maintenance of traffic control measures and erosion and sediment control devices.
- Perform complex calculations, field measurements, and quantity verification to support contract administration and pay item documentation.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely project records, reports, and documentation.
- Support engineers and lead inspectors in managing construction activities on large, complex transportation projects.
- Exercise sound judgment and decision-making in the field and provide work direction to others as needed.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Construction Management and at least two (2) years of progressive transportation technician experience;
or - An associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology and at least five (5) years of progressive transportation technician experience;
or - A high school diploma or GED and at least seven (7) years of progressive transportation technician experience;
or - An equivalent combination of education, training, and directly related experience.
- GDOT WECS certification.
- GDOT Field Concrete Technician certification or ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician certification.
- Thorough knowledge of highway construction specifications, standards, materials, methods, equipment, and accepted construction practices.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, inspection procedures, and related project documents.
- Strong understanding of mathematical principles, including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric calculations used in transportation and highway engineering.
- Ability to perform field measurements, calculations, inspections, and testing with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to work independently in a field environment.
