If you're an experienced professional with a strong track record of managing complex projects both independently and within a team, we encourage you to apply. We're looking for someone with the ability to analyze and interpret legislation to assess its impact on credit unions, and who excels at juggling multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Strong written, verbal, and public speaking skills are essential—especially the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively. If this sounds like you, we'd love to connect!
The League provides a platform for advocacy, collaboration, and innovation, representing nearly 400 credit unions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Virginia and their more than 33 million members, and over $467 billion in assets. The League serves as an advocate through credit union engagement, advocacy impact, Foundation resources, and LEVERAGE products and services.
ResponsibilitiesAs the Senior Director of Governmental Affairs, you will lead the League's advocacy efforts in Georgia. You will represent the organization in all political and legislative matters, dedicating approximately seventy percent of your time to direct lobbying and thirty percent to PAC management, grassroots initiatives, and election‑related activities. You will develop and execute a proactive state legislative and regulatory agenda that supports the interests of Georgia's credit unions, serve as the primary advocate in the Georgia General Assembly, promote legislative priorities, and monitor developments that impact the credit union industry.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with key legislators, state agencies, government officials, and advocacy partners will be a core part of your role. You will represent credit unions at legislative hearings, stakeholder meetings, and public events, ensuring their voices are heard and interests protected.
In addition to legislative advocacy, you will organize grassroots lobbying efforts by engaging member credit unions in advocacy campaigns and events. You will coordinate PAC activities, including donor outreach and fundraising initiatives. You will prepare reports, policy briefs, position statements, and testimony to support legislative and regulatory efforts. As a strategic partner to the Chief Advocacy Officer, you will serve as a liaison to the Georgia Advocacy Committee and collaborate closely with internal teams across political, regulatory, grassroots, and compliance functions.
This position requires a high degree of independence, political insight, and a deep commitment to advancing the credit union movement in Georgia.
- Bachelor's degree in political science, public relations, or a related field (required).
- Minimum of five years of experience working with the state legislative process—either as a staff member for an elected official or in a governmental affairs role with a trade association or lobbying firm.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Must be based in Georgia. The role requires frequent travel throughout the state and occasionally to Alabama, Florida, and Virginia by car, with periodic airline travel.
