Job Description

The Data Center Interior Design Project Manager is primarily responsible for leading and managing consistent implementation of QTS Corporate Interior Standards across multiple projects.

They will interact daily with furniture dealers, architects, engineers, general contractors, specialty vendors, QTS Development, and QTS Operations staff, and possess the written and oral communication skills required for this level of regular communication.

Responsibilities
  • Manage concurrent multi-phased interior and exterior start-up and upgrade projects across several campuses to meet schedule, budget, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with QTS stakeholders, design, construction, and FF&E consultants and vendors to implement the standardized corporate interiors program for new greenfield data center developments and renovations of existing facilities.
  • Write scopes of work, sketch concepts, and level pricing proposals; create executive-level recommendations for procurement and project cost estimates.
  • Support on-site activities such as pre-installation verification, architectural punch walks, FF&E install activities, and post-installation punch walks; track punch issues for timely closeout.
  • Continuously maintain and improve interior standards documents and materials library, including finishes, furniture, audio/visual, and artwork.
  • Communicate updates on interior design and construction status to executive leadership, presenting renderings, floor plans, schedule, cost, and quality data.
  • Ensure appropriate interior and architectural submittals are coordinated with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Support entitlement and permitting needs for exterior facades, signage, etc.
  • Review and approve monthly invoices and pay applications.
  • Review change order requests from vendors and contractors, negotiate pricing, and collaborate with Development PMs and the Development Capital team to source appropriate funding.
  • Collaborate with Sales Engineers and Product teams to aid in custom deal solutions for prospective clients’ large office design and construction.
  • Represent QTS interests in design and OAC weekly meetings, leading discussions when applicable.
  • Work with the internal Development team to enhance project management processes and protocols.
  • Create and build relationships that enhance QTS’s position as a leader in delivering world-class data center real estate.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Six or more years of professional experience in commercial construction/interior design practices and procedures, covering conceptual development through procurement to closeout.
  • Experience with Bluebeam and the Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel, MS Project, or another schedule development tool.
  • Estimated travel of 35% within the United States.
  • U.S. citizenship required by law due to federal customer contracts.
  • Desirable: MBA, master’s in Engineering, Management, or a related field.
  • Experience delivering mission‑critical data center facilities.
  • Extensive management experience with MEP trades.
  • Ability to prepare and present to executive leadership.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with all levels of the organization.
  • Proven team player who fosters collaboration in internal and external environments.
  • Ability to solve problems at a tactical and functional level.
  • Strong project management skills, managing multiple projects simultaneously while prioritizing tasks.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, decision‑making, and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision on complex projects of varying priorities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently with internal departments and external collaborators.
