This role is part of Alcon's Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes.

The Senior Injection Molding Maintenance Technician (Science/Tech/Engineering Path) is primarily responsible for advanced injection mold and tooling maintenance. This includes mold setup, disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of precision molds and tooling components. The role focuses heavily on mold performance, tooling reliability, and troubleshooting complex mold-related and molding process issues to ensure maximum uptime, yield, and product quality. The technician will support continuous improvement initiatives and collaborate closely with molding engineers, manufacturing, and quality teams while maintaining strict compliance with GxP and cleanroom requirements.

Specifics

Include:
  • Perform advanced preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on injection molds, inserts, tool plates, and associated tooling
  • Set up, tear down, inspect, clean, and repair molds to meet production and quality requirements
  • Troubleshoot complex mold and tooling issues related to defects, low yield, flash, wear, or dimensional variation
  • Measure and inspect critical mold components using precision measurement tools and microscopes
  • Prepare and execute precision mold tool setups according to production orders and engineering specifications
  • Maintain and repair mold bases, inserts, hot runner systems, cooling systems, and mechanical mold components
  • Support mold sampling, validation, and qualification activities
  • Assist molding and process engineers with tooling, process optimization, and root cause investigations
  • Install, start up, and support validation of new or modified injection molds and molding equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair tooling‑related mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, or control system issues
  • Advise and improve maintenance systems, including spare parts management and maintenance strategies
  • Minimize downtime while improving yield, efficiency, and lens quality
  • Resolve tooling‑related defect and quality issues through data‑driven root cause analysis
  • Complete tooling inspections, tool plate setups, and mold cleaning activities
  • Support continuous improvement and technical upgrade projects related to molding and tooling performance
  • Help develop, update, and maintain SOPs for mold and tooling maintenance activities
  • Provide technical guidance and training to other technicians or departments as needed
  • Work in a cleanroom environment, following all cleanliness and contamination control requirements
  • Adhere strictly to GxP regulations, SOPs, and quality system requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentation, maintenance records, and inspection data
  • Complete all required training and maintain compliance with regulatory and company requirements
  • Stay current with advancements in injection molding, tooling, and precision manufacturing technologies
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
  • 3 Years of Relevant Experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/

EXPERIENCE:
  • Technical diploma or certification in injection molding, toolmaking, or precision engineering
  • Hands‑on experience with injection mold setup, tear down, and repair
  • Strong understanding of mold components, inserts, hot runners, and cooling systems
  • Ability to perform basic molding machine and process fault troubleshooting
  • Experience using precision measurement tools and mold inspection equipment
  • Familiarity with mold flow analysis concepts
  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment while following strict cleanliness protocols
