The Vice President of Advancement plays a critical role in cultivating, stewarding, and growing
relationships with individuals, community organizations, churches, grant funding, and
This position focuses on building meaningful connections with current and
potential donors, enhancing donor engagement strategies, and driving fundraising initiatives
from a 30 million dollar annual budget to a 50
-100 million dollar annual budget.
- Supervises, leads and mentors the advancement team
- Develop and execute personalized donor engagement plans to strengthen relationships with individual donors and partners
- Meet or exceed fundraising goals by identifying opportunities to upgrade donor support levels
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with major donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and other key stakeholders.
- Maintain regular communication with donors through emails, calls, personalized letters, and in-person meetings
- Recognize donor contributions through acknowledgment programs, events, and other creative methods
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to meet or exceed revenue targets
- Identify and research prospective donors and partners and develop strategies for
- Oversee major gift fundraising, capital campaigns, annual giving programs, planned giving, special fundraising event, and grant applications
- Collaborate with the development team to design and implement annual giving campaigns, major gift initiatives, and planned giving strategies
- Identify and pursue new funding opportunities, including grants, partnerships, and sponsor ships.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in the CRM/database
- Track and analyze donor engagement metrics and fundraising performance, providing regular reports to leadership.
- Use data insights to refine strategies and improve donor retention and acquisition
- Develop and manage the advancement budget in collaboration with the finance team.
- Ensure efficient allocation of resources to maximize organizational impact
- Assist in planning and executing donor events, fundraisers, and outreach campaigns
- Represent the organization at external events to network and engage with potential
- Work closely with marketing and communications teams to create compelling donor materials, including newsletters, appeals, and impact reports
- Partner with program staff to align donor messaging with the organization’s mission and impact
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, marketing, or a related
- Proven ability to cultivate and maintain donor relationships
- Experience managing major gifts or planned giving programs
- Familiarity with digital fundraising and online giving platforms
- Knowledge of fundraising regulations and best practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Passion for the organization’s mission and commitment to philanthropy
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in donor development, fundraising, or a related role
- Experience in leading through a leadership transition, particularly from a founder strategy to a second-generation strategy, is strongly preferred
- Experience with CRM software (e.g., Salesforce, Virtuous) and donor data analysis.
