Position Overview
Part‑time Fire & Explosion Investigator located in the Greater Minneapolis area. This role investigates the origin and cause of fire and explosion events, collects evidence, and prepares clear, concise reports for clients.
Primary Responsibilities- Investigate and analyze the origin and cause of fire and explosion events within residential, commercial, and industrial sites per NFPA 921 and 1033.
- Collect evidence and document scenes according to NFPA 921 & 1033.
- Photograph incident sites and preserve evidence per client instructions.
- Interview witnesses, including owners, occupants, tenants, and local officials, to record statements.
- Identify, document, and analyze compliance with applicable codes of installed fire suppression and detection systems.
- Research failure modes and code requirements as needed and prepare recommendations for stakeholders.
- Prepare accurate, clear, thorough, and concise reports and letters outlining causes and origins of damages.
- Follow established policies, procedures, and processes, exercising sound judgment and submitting documents in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on large and complex assignments and contribute as an effective team member.
- Maintain established relationships with current clients and consultants.
- 5+ years of experience as a fire investigator; a combination of public and private sector experience is ideal.
- IAAI CFI certification required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire; NAFI‑CFEI certification acceptable.
- Bondable and eligible for licensing as a private investigator where required.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in catastrophic environments, such as natural disaster aftermaths, for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle for work purposes.
- Experience with commercial and industrial facilities.
- Experience working with law firms and insurance companies.
Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field is preferred.
