Overview
Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Crane Manager – Quality with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever‑changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Aptitude to anticipate problems, critical issues, and opportunities as they arise; along with the capability to creatively solve problems and bring together viable solutions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are vital, with attention to detail equally important. The Crane Manager will lead, manage, document, monitor, and train to the safety requirements of our Wind Energy cranes and lift planning requirements.
- Overall familiarity with crane logistics, comprehension of crane manuals, and familiarity with crane industry safety requirements.
- General familiarity with all crane operations, limitations and chart variations.
- Wind Specific lift permitting.
- Wind Specific FLAC data use and implementation.
- Wind Specific sail factor implementation.
- Being an additional resource for the rest of the company outside of wind (explanation of permit, and use cases within).
- Support refreshing crane training documentation.
- Support the advancement of Crane Tracking system to ensure Mortenson has a world class preventative training and systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent field.
- Minimum three years’ experience in the design, engineering, or construction industry with experience planning, leading and overseeing crane activities.
- Strong attention to detail to organize and manage multiple project tasks.
- Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, as well as various crane planning software packages.
- Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills.
- Experience with issue management, and investigation of crane related incidents.
- Completed training in basic project management and supervision.
- Current driver’s license.
- Experience in Crane application and mechanical understanding of the various systems that we analyze for lifts.
- Ability to use lift permit and explain matting concepts, distribution, etc.
- Geotechnical understanding of soils and reactions and failure modes.
- Knowledge of testing methods and tools for differing soil types.
- Ability to connect with various audiences to ensure training is being understood – craft workers, operators, riggers, site supervision, safety professionals.
- Sharing lessons learned from within the company and the industry – Best Practices, Investigation Results, Future initiatives.

The base pay range for this role is $100,100 MIN - $150,200 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO, and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
