Internship Opportunit ies at PBS North and The North 103.3

Are you passionate about media production, community engagement and social media? Duluth
- Superior Area Educational Television Corporation (DSAETC), doing business as PBS North and The North 103.3 is seeking several dedicated Interns to join our team! This is a unique opportunit y to collaborate with various departments at PBS North and The North 103.3. We are looking for internship candidates in these areas of operation:

  • Radio

  • TV Production

This outstanding opportunity will give your career a head start with phenomenal support from a collaborative, mixed-skills team. This experience will also help you develop and expand your media literacy skills as both a content consumer and creator.

What You’ll do:

Mentorship under the direction of the Educational and Program Producer, DSAETC interns will help shape our community content. Radio and TV Production interns will curate social media content that highlights the exciting activities and projects within our organization. They’ll also gain hands‑on experience in a production environment, where they can learn skills in lighting, sound, and storytelling along with best practices for digital, linear, and audio platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:

TV Production
  • Learn how to operate field cameras and editing software to produce your own feature stories and other projects for PBS North’s social media, web, and broadcast platforms.

  • Learn best practices in storytelling, interviewing, and shot composition techniques.

  • Assist producers in researching and coordinating stories.

  • Become part of the Thursday studio floor crew, trained in operating studio cameras, teleprompter, and audio board.

  • Gain insight into DSAETC mission and how a public media entity operates, including fundraising, engineering, and community engagement.

  • Participate in the internship evaluation proces

  • Midterm evaluation to receive feedback on project performance and skill development

  • End of term evaluation to provide a comprehensive assessment of performance and accomplishments

Radio
  • Assist in researching potential interview subjects and archiving the radio station’s extensive music collection, with the potential to record your own show for The North.

  • Learn how to operate in-house cameras and editing software to produce live interviews, and live music for The North
    103.3’s social media and web platforms.

  • Become part of the Thursday television studio floor crew, trained in operating studio cameras, teleprompter, and audio board for live TV and radio productions for the purposes of learning professional industry tools related to radio production, social media, and web platforms.

  • Gain insight into DSAETC mission and how a public media entity operates, including fundraising, engineering, and community engagement.

  • Participate in the internship evaluation proces

  • Midterm evaluation to receive feedback on project performance and skill development

  • End of term evaluation to provide a comprehensive assessment of performance and accomplishments

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Be willing to work in a hybrid environment.

  • Have a basic knowledge of content management systems.

  • Demonstrates basic problem-solving skills, including the ability to recognize issues, evaluate options, and take appropriate action.

Education Requirements:
  • Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in a related field is preferred. Candidates pursuing an associate degree with intent to transfer into a bachelor’s degree in a related field will also be considered.

  • Preference will be given to candidates intending to obtain academic credit for the internship.

Other Requirements:
  • Passionate about Public Media.

  • All internship positions must be available from approximately 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday(s) (or later if needed), as well as occasional special projects as assigned and occasional weekends.

  • Participate in station-hosted showcase, presenting projects, accomplishments, and key learnings from the internship.

  • Occasionally required to push, pull, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Travel may be required.
