Job DescriptionOrthopedics – Nocturnist
LocationDuluth, MN – located at the westernmost tip of Lake Superior. 150 miles north of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Population 86,000 with surrounding communities approximately 120,000+.
Practice Specifics- Work where other people play.
- Cover orthopedic evening/night call from 4 PM to 7 AM at a level 1 trauma center.
- Approximately 180 weekday and weekend shifts per year. Flexible scheduling options include two weeks on/ two weeks off, one week on/one week off, or other agreed coverage models.
- Supported by four fellowship‑trained orthopedic trauma surgeons available 7 days/week.
- Supported by 14 subspecialty‑trained orthopedic surgeons in orthopedics oncology, hand, foot and ankle, shoulder, adult reconstruction, and pediatric surgery.
- Call is supported by an APP group that takes call 24/7 and answers in‑house and outside patient calls.
- No spine calls – handled by neurosurgery.
- No office/clinic responsibility.
- No hospital rounding required.
- No requirement to respond to hospital codes.
- Call can be taken from home.
- Expectation to see orthopedic admissions and high‑energy trauma patients per discretion of general surgery trauma team in-house 24/7.
- Hip fractures admitted by hospitalist team.
- Anticipated case volume 0‑2 cases per shift.
- St. Mary’s Medical Center is a 330‑bed tertiary care hospital;
Level I Trauma Center with 24‑bed ED and helicopter support. Children’s hospital within St. Mary’s. - St. Mary’s has ranked among America’s Top 100 Hospitals and Fracture Care Programs.
- Dedicated EMR/EPIC system.
- Service area approximately 500,000.
- Certified as HIMSS EMRAM Level 7 for inpatient and ambulatory facilities.
- Board‑Certified/Board‑Eligible Orthopedics.
- $622,119. Candidates may be eligible for additional bonuses, quality incentives, or production‑based compensation.
