Position Overview
The Department of Political Science at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) seeks a full‑time, non‑tenure‑track teaching assistant professor or instructor with an emphasis in Public Law for a one‑year position. The successful candidate will have a 4‑3 course load, offering two courses in Constitutional Law and one introductory research methods course for undergraduates, as well as introductory courses in Political Theory and/or American Government.
An asynchronous online section of American Government is possible. Other upper‑level courses can be in public law or a related subfield. The appointment begins August 18, 2026; review of applications starts March 30, 2026.
- Deliver two courses in Constitutional Law and one research methods course for undergraduate students.
- Teach introductory courses in Political Theory and/or American Government.
- Possibly offer one asynchronous online section of American Government.
- Teach additional upper‑level public‑law or related courses as needed.
- Required qualifications:
- MA or MS in Political Science or related field.
- Preferred qualifications:
- Ph.D. or J.D. in Political Science or related field.
- Two years of teaching at the collegiate level.
- Evidence of strong written communication skills and the ability to work with diverse groups.
Pay Range: Instructor: $44,156–$49,856 per year;
Teaching Assistant Professor: $49,892.25–$66,523 per year.
Time appointment: 100%.
Position type: Faculty and P&A Staff.
