Position SummaryThis position is responsible for student supervision in and around the school and grounds before, during, and after the school day, including large‑group supervision during lunch. Implementation of positive and consistent expectations provides emotional and physical safety to each student.
Primary Job Functions- Familiarize students with and enforce behavioral guidelines and consequences during lunch periods.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with students to enhance their self‑concept and learning attitude.
- Build positive working relationships with kitchen, lunchroom, and building staff for a respectful environment.
- Escort students to lunchroom, restrooms, lockers, and nurse's office as needed.
- Supervise building entrance, verify adult pickup identification, and follow sign‑in procedures.
- Supervise hallways during class periods, passing times, and before/after school, including checks of restrooms and locker rooms.
- Supervise parking and bus loading areas.
- Provide hall supervision during all lunch periods.
- Provide on‑site conflict resolution and refer incidents to building administration.
- Assist lunchroom staff with table wipe‑downs and other duties.
- Distribute student passes to classroom teachers.
- Provide additional supervision as directed by the principal.
- Monitor security cameras.
- Support monitoring of student attendance and punctuality.
- Maintain confidentiality with students, families, and staff.
- Ensure fairness, respect, and equity for all stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Competencies required by State of Minnesota, Federal government, and/or District 833.
- Teamwork, confidentiality, and communication skills.
- Positive attitude toward working with youth aged 11‑18.
- Ability to establish and enforce behavioral guidelines consistently.
- Ability to supervise large student groups.
- Model appropriate behavior, neat appearance, and proper grammar.
- Active participation in district-sponsored trainings.
- Proficient with routine computer functions including email, Internet navigation, and Microsoft Word.
- Pass Paraprofessional fitness for duty tests.
- Lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
- Prompt, regular, and reliable attendance.
- Effective communication with students, parents, co‑workers, supervisors, and the community.
- Appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.
- Training and experience in behavioral management techniques.
- Knowledge of secondary student behavior characteristics.
