Hours6.5 hours per day, 8:10 a.m. – 3:10 p.m.
SalaryStarting base pay $22.25 per hour. Additional $.50 per hour once Highly Qualified status is achieved (achieved after 2 or 4 year degree, or 60 semester credits, or completion of district offered Para Pro).

Position SummaryThis position provides instructional and/or behavioral support to special education students in high needs programs under the direction of a licensed special education teacher.
Primary Job Functions- Consult daily with licensed special education teacher regarding daily responsibilities.
- Assist teacher in implementing district policies and procedures, including emergency procedures, building orientation, confidentiality, student vulnerability, data collection, and classroom management.
- Assist students academically in reading, writing, or math, implementing curriculum and adapting instructional strategies and materials under the teacher’s direction.
- Assist students with learning challenges, behavioral issues, and physical support. This may include toileting, eating, transitions, lockers, lunch/recess, buses, physical transfers, and other activities of daily living.
- Accept work directions willingly, shift work assignments, and accept changing and new job assignments as needed.
- Support teacher using behavioral management techniques, including redirection and restraints if necessary. Supervise students during cooling off time, monitor and document behavior, and implement positive behavior support.
- Collect and record student data, adhere to supervising teacher’s directions and requirements, and communicate information to teacher(s) and other staff as identified.
- Provide services to students in a manner that demonstrates knowledge of the distinctions between the roles and responsibilities of teacher, paraprofessional, and other staff.
- Maintain boundaries and confidentiality with students, families, and staff.
- Maintain fairness, confidentiality, respect, and equity for all students, staff, and families.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to meet District 833 Highly Qualified requirements.
- Competencies as required by State of Minnesota, Federal government, and/or District 833.
- Skills to reinforce math, reading, and writing in elementary and/or secondary classrooms.
- Ability to lift and transfer up to 50 pounds.
- Proven teamwork, confidentiality, and communication skills.
- Models appropriate behavior, neat appearance, and proper grammar for all students.
- Self-directed and able to organize small group reading and math activities with provided resources and assessments.
- Computer skills: email, Internet navigation, Microsoft Word.
- Pass Paraprofessional fitness for duty tests.
- Prompt, regular, and reliable attendance.
- Participate in district-sponsored training when offered.
- Communicate with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and community positively.
- Appreciate diversity in all interactions and job functions.
- Trained and experienced in behavioral management techniques.
- Knowledge of basic academics and behavior characteristics of elementary and/or secondary students.
- Certification in first aid and CPR.
- Previous experience with students with disabilities and knowledge of disabilities.
- Knowledge of terminology related to special education services and support.
- Previous experience utilizing behavioral management techniques.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
