Location: Duluth, Minnesota
Type: Full-time
- Ensure integration of the men’s ice hockey program activities into the College mission and culture.
- Recruit a diverse pool of prospective student‑athletes to reach the team’s target roster size.
- Retain and graduate student‑athletes at a rate higher than the overall college average to generate positive net revenue for the college.
- Facilitate an environment that encourages the development of skills to effectively engage individuals from varied backgrounds.
- Coach in a manner that produces successful performance, creating a positive image of the college within the community, alumni, and prospective students.
- Administer all aspects of the hockey program, including budget, travel, scheduling, and documentation to ensure smooth operation and efficient use of resources.
- Ensure compliance with NCAA Division III, Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), and internal policies and procedures.
- Facilitate team community service to present a positive image of the college and help student‑athletes live the Benedictine values.
- Manage staff to foster a cooperative work environment, delegate responsibilities, and maintain a strong team dynamic.
- Manage multiple projects under pressure with composure and flexibility.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree and five to seven years of coaching hockey and recruiting experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Knowledge of hockey rules, techniques, and culture, plus NCAA regulations and guidelines related to recruitment and retention of collegiate athletes.
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and the Benedictine values of Community, Respect, Love of Learning, Hospitality, and Stewardship.
- Skill in planning, organizing, and implementing athletic programs and activities.
- Ability to fundraise, build and maintain relationships with parents, alumni, and external partners.
- Strong leadership skills with the capacity to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Knowledge of budget and financial record‑keeping practices.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with diverse student populations.
- Contribute to an inclusive workplace and establish/maintain effective relationships with team members, co‑workers, students, alumni, and community.
- Proficiency in computer applications relevant to the role.
- Valid driver’s license.
- AED/CPR certification within six (6) months of employment.
- All required licenses and certificates must be maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in conditions that include extreme temperatures.
- Mobility to work in typical athletic and office settings.
- Close and distance vision required.
- Ability to travel for long periods of time.
- Master’s degree.
- Head coaching experience.
- Collegiate coach managerial experience.
