Job Description

We are seeking a SR Roadway Construction Inspector to join our Construction Management and Construction Inspection practice team in Duluth, GA. The successful candidate will perform on‑site construction inspections of various transportation‑related construction projects, including bridge and highway projects. Project locations may be anywhere within the Savannah Region.

Core Responsibilities

This is an advanced level technical work supporting engineers in functional areas of structure and roadway construction inspection; materials sampling, inspection and testing. Work usually involves a fairly wide range of decision making and use of judgment and may include providing work direction to others. The employee will function as lead project inspector conducting independent complex inspections and supervising lower level inspectors performing routine to moderately complex inspections of roadway and structure construction processes and materials to assure compliance with the construction contract.

Employee may perform contract administrative duties such as field measurements of pay items as well as other department required documentation. Work may include participating in concept meetings, field plan reviews (preliminary and/or final), CPM schedule reviews, project close‑out, and other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Employee may perform project engineering duties in lieu of Project Engineer on less complex or large construction projects – roundabout, bridge construction, bridge rehab, traffic signals, major intersection improvement, interstate resurfacing, ITS projects, LIBP and roadway widening (passing lane/turn lane), or other projects in a similar scope/complexity.

A degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology (4‑year curriculum) or Construction Management (4‑year curriculum) and three (3) years of progressive transportation technician experience as an employee or consultant for a Municipal or State Highway Agency; NON‑engineering/Construction Management Degree or High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of progressive transportation technician experience as an employee or consultant for a State Highway Agency;

or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.

Preferred Certifications
  • Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 1 (General Provisions, Auxiliary Items, Basic Highway Math, and Basic Highway Plan Reading)
  • Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 2 (Pavements, Bases and Subbases, Minor Drainage Structures, Construction Erosion Control)
  • Passing scores on GDOT’s Construction Engineering Inspection Training tests – Group 3 (Earthwork, Bridges, Incidental Items)
  • GDOT WECS.
  • GDOT Field Concrete Technician Certification.
  • GSWCC Level 1a (Erosion Control).

Thorough knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in highway construction.

Considerable knowledge of mathematical functions, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry related to highway/transportation engineering.

Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers.

Ability to read, interpret and explain such things as construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures; ability to take notes and prepare or review reports; good communicative ability; and supervisory ability to coordinate the activities of lower‑level employees and instruct them in proper work methods.

A valid Georgia Driver's license.
