Salary Range: $28.16 - $38.40 hourly; $58,798 - $80,179 annually

Responsibilities- Develops and reviews complex signing, pavement marking, and temporary traffic control plans and specifications for project letting ensuring compliance with MnMUTCD, Traffic Engineering Manual, and CADD data standards.
- Designs sign panels for inclusion in construction plans and for installation by the District Traffic Services Section.
- Maintains the District Sign Database housed in TAMMS.
- Assists with the implementation of traffic control plans, pavement marking plans, and signing plans by being an expert technical resource for MnDOT District Construction staff.
- Performs field investigations and analysis of in‑place traffic control devices in accordance with the MnMUTCD and the MnDOT Traffic Engineering Manual.
- Performs all work necessary to provide a speed recommendation to supervisor based on the most current MnMUTCD and MnDOT Traffic Engineering Manual guidance.
- Investigates traffic control device complaints to identify problems, make recommendations regarding the need and placement of traffic control devices, and make necessary corrections.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Experience: Four years of experience performing traffic engineering activities that included at least two years of experience utilizing computer‑aided drafting and designing (CADD). OR Three years of experience performing traffic engineering activities that included at least two years of experience utilizing CADD AND road or bridge maintenance, road construction, design, surveying, materials/soils, right of way, sign repair/installation and/or permits.
- Education Substitution: A two‑year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four‑year degrees:
Architectural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering;
Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (Submit transcripts for coursework substitution.) - English Proficiency: Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in‑person or via two‑way radio and other electronic devices; maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Valid Class D Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications- Previous MnDOT experience working as a Laborer, Transportation Associate, or Transportation Generalist.
Successful candidate must pass past‑employer reference checks and a criminal history check. Background investigation may include SEMA4 Records Check, Criminal History Check, Employment Reference Check, Education/License Verification, Driver’s License Check, and completion of a federal pre‑employment drug test with negative results. Position contingent upon valid Commercial Driver’s License and appropriate drug and alcohol testing clearance.
