The incumbent will be responsible for collaborating with American Indian Tribes to increase and maintain access to water, wastewater, and solid waste facilities by:
Responsibilities- Performing planning, design, and construction oversight activities for community and individual water supply, wastewater, and solid waste facilities.
- Visiting tribal communities where projects are being planned and constructed.
- Reviewing work prepared by technical staff.
- Estimating costs and materials necessary to construct sanitation facilities.
- Preparing engineering reports.
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

- Degree:
Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET, or include differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas: statics, dynamics; strength of materials; fluid mechanics, hydraulics; thermodynamics; electrical fields and circuits; nature and properties of materials; and any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics. - Combination of education and experience: college‑level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering and a good understanding of the engineering sciences and techniques applied to one of the branches of engineering. Adequacy must be demonstrated by one of the following:
- Professional registration or licensure (EI, EIT, or PE by any State, DC, Guam, or Puerto Rico).
- Written test (passing FE exam or equivalent).
- Specified academic courses (at least 60 semester hours including the courses specified).
- Related curriculum (requires at least 1 year professional engineering experience supervised).
- At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following: preparation of engineering reports, ensuring proper procedures and standards, and visiting construction worksites.
- Bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement.
- Currently enrolled in a professional engineering program certified by ABET, expected to complete within 9 months with Superior Academic Achievement.
- Completed at least one full year of graduate level education in engineering or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 12 months work experience as a technician equivalent to the GS‑5 grade level or higher.
- Completed a 5‑year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
One of the following three criteria must be met:
- Class standing – upper third of graduating class.
- Grade‑point average – 3.0 or higher out of 4.0 on official transcript, or 3.5 or higher for required courses.
- Honor society membership – election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.
