Our client, a leader in the engineering sector, is seeking an Assistant Department Manager - Transmission to join their team in Minneapolis on a permanent basis. This role involves managerial responsibilities in addition to normal transmission design engineering duties, focusing on the leadership and development of a team within the Transmission Department of the T&D Global Practice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advocate for safety within the department.
  • Foster a culture based on principles of quality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Recruit, develop, train, and retain interns and engineers.
  • Use creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in problem-solving.
  • Coordinate team and mentor assignments efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Review employee performance and conduct development meetings.
  • Identify training needs and develop training programs in collaboration with other departments.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining client relationships.
  • Responsible for fostering a healthy employee-owner culture within the team.
  • Assist in developing business initiatives to improve profitability and efficiencies.
  • Develop and foster an innovative culture that leverages tools, technology, and processes for continuous improvement.
  • Provide input on productivity goals, budgets, and quality enhancement.
  • Approve timecards and ensure billable time goals are met.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, environmental science, construction management or a related field from an accredited programme.
  • Experience in transmission and design within an engineering context.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in giving and receiving performance feedback.
  • Proficiency with tools and technology such as Office 365 applications, Pivot Tables, and Data Models is advantageous.
  • Ability to influence, lead, and manage change thoughtfully and positively.
  • Professional Engineering licence is preferred.
