Work Environment and Schedule

First shift (days). Able to lift 40 lbs without assistance. Adherence to GMP safety standards. Laboratory setting. Loud noises. No contact lens allowed; prescription glasses provided. Requires some PPE (glasses, gown, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs, etc.). Needs to stand full shift. Strong odors. Working with hazardous/toxic materials.

Role Overview

The Field Service Engineer II coordinates all field service support and customer relationship management for Chromatographic and Mass Spectrometric systems used in customer facilities. The role involves deployment, maintenance, proactive upkeep, and instrument verification.

Location & Travel

Minneapolis, MN. Primarily covers Minnesota, ideally based in the Twin Cities area. Travel to North and South Dakota required. This position has not been approved for relocation.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform on-site installations, repairs, maintenance, qualifications, and validations of Chromatography systems.
  • Proficiently use customer management software to complete service calls, handle parts inventories, and complete job tasks.
  • Evaluate examination and assessment results to identify the origin of issues, and suggest fixing, substitution, or alternative remedial measures.
  • Coordinate problem resolution with engineering, customer service, and other personnel to expedite repairs.
  • Analyze chemistry reports of technical problems to recommend modifications to eliminate future issues.
  • Provide a communication link between the customer and the company to ensure effective service.
  • Develop and conduct training on safe operations of the equipment and demonstrate skills to trainees.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry or related field required.
  • Preference for candidates with at least 3 years of practical experience as a Service Engineer, specifically with analytical instrumentation, or 3+ years of pertinent industry experience.
  • Proficiency with Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry instrumentation preferred.
  • Strong communication and the ability to build positive customer relationships.
  • Ability to prioritize service requests and produce clear and concise documentation.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
Essential Functions and

Physical Requirements
  • Securely move 50 pounds with periodic support and 25-30 pounds continuously throughout the day.
  • Bend, squat, stretch, and reach daily in a service function.
  • Travel overnight, including possible air travel, for 50% of scheduled work.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Work independently within a customer location.
  • Extensive walking/standing for 75-85% of the day.
  • Operate in areas where chemicals are handled.
  • Operate material handling equipment like push carts and pallet jacks.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as lab coats, coveralls, hood, face shield, respirator, hairnets, steel-toed shoes, and/or safety gloves.
Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Minnesota is $28.85–$40.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
