Position: Electrical Harness Lead & Designer - The Toro Company

Who Are We?

The Electrical Harness Lead & Designer serves as a senior-level designer/engineer, manager, and team leader of the harness design group to design and develop electrical harnesses for The Toro Company’s Landscapes and Contractor (L&C) Division.

This position will design and develop electrical harnesses; collect, assign, organize and manage the work of the harness design group; and manage and develop the members of the harness design group.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:

Harness Team Leadership

  • Lead the Harness Design Team of the Power Systems Group, to plan, design, develop, prototype, inspect, release and document electrical harnesses and associated components, for new product development and cost and quality improvements - from residential products through the largest zero-turn rotary mowers on the market.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, groups, and divisions, to define harness requirements and scope, estimate schedules, budgets, costs, and resources for new product development, as well as to improve quality, reduce cost, improve lead-lines and resolve harness supplier issues.
  • Manage and lead the harness team that resides in three locations:
    Toro Headquarters in Bloomington, MN;
    Exmark Division in Beatrice, NE; and the India Technology Center in Pune, India.
  • Plan resource needs, and recruit, develop, mentor, and manage the performance and engagement of your team.
  • Lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining project schedules, costs, and deliverables.
Technical Leadership and Design
  • Serve as a technical lead for electrical harness design and development.
  • Perform all aspects of harness design and development; including architecture design, schematic entry, harness routing, component selection, harness assembly, testing, verification, machine fit-up, supplier support, documentation.
  • Oversee your team’s work to ensure robust, manufacturable, and serviceable electrical harness solutions that meet performance, cost, quality, manufacturability, and regulatory requirements and expectations.
  • Establish and maintain best practices for harness design methods and standards.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, failure mode analyses, supplier meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in product design processes and development tools.
  • Help oversee and manage the Electrical Lab facilities at Bloomington, MN site.
What Do You Need?
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:

Required Education And Experience
  • Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable engineering field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive product design experience in a product development or manufacturing environment.
  • Significant experience designing electrical systems, wiring harnesses, and electromechanical assemblies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Harness Design Software (Arcadia or Creo Schematics are preferred), 3D CAD software (Creo preferred), and MRP systems.
