Highly responsible administrative and supervisory work in a geographic or functional division of the Sheriff's Office. This position is part of the Deputy Sheriff Supervisor Unit represented by Minnesota Public Employees Association.
An employee in this class is responsible for overseeing the civil and criminal law enforcement activities and public safety activities of an assigned division or duty station of the Sheriff’s Office. Duties include directing and supervising the activities of staff assigned to the administration, patrol, criminal investigation, court services and emergency services and management divisions, managing day-to-day operations, coordinating and allocating resources, investigating complaints, coordinating inmate transportation and court security operations, managing grant programs, conducting investigations, and coordinating tactical operations during emergency situations.
The work is performed under the direction of the Undersheriff and/or Sheriff.

- Two (2) years as a Deputy Sheriff Lieutenant; OR four (4) years as a Deputy Sheriff Sergeant; OR eight (8) years as either a Deputy Sheriff or Deputy Sheriff Investigator; OR permanent status in any of the above-named Deputy Sheriff classes and ten (10) years of full-time, equivalent, public sector POST licensed law enforcement experience. Two (2) years of experience in any of the above-named classes or experiences may be substituted by graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminology, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field.
- Two (2) years of POST licensed (or equivalent) supervisory or lead worker experience in a law enforcement agency.
- Possession of a valid Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Board license.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
