Job Description Summary
The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based Medical Affairs role supporting and representing PTC and its products with key opinion leaders (KOLs), clinicians, academic institutions, and professional organizations by responding to unsolicited information requests.
Responsibilities- Attend national/regional medical meetings and symposia; present findings and cultivate relationships.
- Deliver fair-balanced, objective clinical and scientific presentations to HCPs, payors, and patient organizations.
- Identify speakers for advisory boards, symposia, and educational programs using regulatory-approved materials.
- Support regional medical initiatives (e.g., advisory boards) as needed.
- Provide management input on competitive therapies, business development opportunities/risks, and market insights.
- Establish and maintain relationships with health authorities (e.g., KOLs, HCPs, academic institutions, payors, patient organizations).
- Facilitate timely applications for unrestricted educational grants and research initiatives per policy.
- Maintain awareness of medical/clinical, regulatory, compliance, and quality issues and adhere to company standards.
- Maintain competitor intelligence and communicate relevant insights internally.
- Advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, DNP, MSN, MS, Registered Dietician, or Genetic Counselor) plus 2+ years as an MSL or equivalent experience.
- Experience supporting orphan/rare diseases (Phenylketonuria preferred).
- Experience with high-cost products via specialty pharmacy with patient access coordination.
- Demonstrated ability interpreting scientific data and presenting to scientists/HCPs.
- Strong communication (including scientific/technical writing) and ability to influence without authority.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; ability to work in a fast-paced matrix environment.
- Valid driver’s license; personal automobile and active insurance; daily travel to/from accounts and ability to drive/fly long distances.
- Requires overnight travel (50–60%); daily entry to hospitals/medical facilities with potential vendor credentialing compliance.
- Experience supporting an orphan, rare disease, and/or specialized drug(s).
Expected base salary range: $153,000–$199,200; incentives and eligibility for medical/dental/vision and retirement savings plans.
