Medical Laboratory Assistant - Phlebotomy

Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Assistant supports pre‑analytical and post‑analytical functions in Essentia Health Laboratories, promotes patient safety during specimen collection and processing, and performs waived lab testing in compliance with accreditation agencies and state licensure requirements.

• Collect specimens via venipuncture, capillary puncture, and other methods (urine, swabs, etc.).
• Process and handle specimens per testing requirements to support clinical laboratory testing.
• Conduct laboratory testing as applicable, following accreditation and licensure standards.
• Participate in training new employees, students, and other personnel as appropriate.
• Adhere to Essentia Health rules and policies regarding specimen and equipment handling to ensure safety and quality.

• Graduate from a Medical Laboratory Assistant Program.
• OR complete an internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within one year of hire.

• ASCP certification in Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Assistant.
• Recent specimen preparation and processing experience.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills.
