This job posting will be used to fill four (4) Investigation Specialist 2/Labor Investigator Senior positions with emphasis on employment protections related to misclassification of employees, Minnesota’s Child Labor Standards Act, or Minnesota’s Earned Sick and Safe Time law.
This position offers a conditional hybrid work schedule which includes telework days and in‑office days at the St. Paul, Mankato, or St. Cloud Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) office buildings.
Telework options for this position are dependent on where the employee lives. The primary work location for this position is St. Paul, Mankato, or St. Cloud.
- Employees living within 50 miles of the primary work location will be required to work in the office at least 50% of the time each month.
- Employees that live in Minnesota and are more than 50 miles from the primary work location may be eligible for more than 50% telework with agency approvals.
- Employees may reside outside of the state of Minnesota if they live in a bordering state and are within 50 miles of the primary work location.
The Labor Standards Division of DLI plays a critical role in achieving compliance with labor and employment laws that are applicable to Minnesota’s workforce. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in the Labor Standards Division to help prevent violations as well as pursue enforcement activity related to the Minnesota Fair Labor Standards Act, the Minnesota Payment of Wages Act, employment protections under Minnesota’s Paid Leave law, the Minnesota Child Labor Standards Act, the Women’s Economic Security Act, Minnesota’s Earned Sick and Safe Time law, misclassification, various anti‑retaliation provisions, and other state labor and employment laws and rules.
Responsibilities- Investigate violations and administer and enforce the provisions of the state’s labor standards laws, including: the Minnesota Fair Labor Standards Act and Prevailing Wages Act (M.S.
