Manage our Windows server ecosystem and core directory services.
Lead the planning and deployment of server architecture, security hardening, and specialized application delivery.
Maintain operational health and lifecycle management of our Windows-based server infrastructure and Active Directory environments.
- Configure, install, monitor, and maintain Windows Server instances within virtualized environments (e.g., VMware vSphere or Azure).
- Perform senior-level administration of Active Directory (AD), including Group Policy (GPO) management, OU structures, and DNS/DHCP configurations.
- Maintain operating efficiency and security integrity; manage patch cycles, SSL certificates, and system backups.
- Lead planning, design, and scheduling for major software and operating system updates to ensure modern support standards.
- Serve as a key participant in the ITSS Systems team and the Windows sub-group to align infrastructure with University goals.
- Provide high-level support, configuration, and maintenance for specialized Windows-based applications and their associated database integrations.
- Work with software vendors to troubleshoot complex issues and implement feature updates to keep services current.
- Respond to complex systems service tickets and provide expert-level consultation for departmental Windows-based needs.
- Prioritize creation and maintenance of technical documentation for system configurations and recovery procedures.
- Engage in training, conferences, and continued education to stay current with industry best practices.
- Ensure all managed systems remain in alignment with University of Minnesota policies and security standards.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least four (4) years of relevant IT experience; or a master’s degree in a related field and at least two (2) years of relevant IT experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the administration, configuration, and security hardening of Windows Server environments and Active Directory.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing and supporting Windows Server instances within virtualized environments (e.g., VMware vSphere or Azure/Cloud-hybrid infrastructure).
- Proficiency in Power Shell or other scripting languages for automation of routine server tasks, system monitoring, and reporting.
- Strong communication skills with a history of providing Tier 3 technical consultation to departmental stakeholders and non-technical users.
- Experience working within a Higher Education IT environment and familiarity with University of Minnesota security and data privacy policies.
Pay Range: $90,000 - $110,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

While our salary ranges provide a framework, the initial pay may not reach the maximum of the range. Compensation reflects the value and unique contributions of each candidate while maintaining equity.
