Amentum is seeking a Senior Paralegal to join our team supporting a new team at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, DC.
This position is expected to work full-time onsite in Washington, DC. This position reports to a Supervisory Paralegal, or Project Manager.
PositionDescription:
Works under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or a Project Supervisor. Work products are reviewed prior to submission; however, often develops these products with minimal direct supervision other than written guidelines. In addition to functions performed by Paralegals, described below, performs moderately complex legal research; synopsizes transcripts of hearings and oral arguments for attorney use; reviews case related materials and, for example, identifies potentially conflicting statements or areas requiring further investigation;
writes preliminary drafts of simple non-legal memoranda and correspondence. Contact mostly with other Contractor staff, but occasional contact with trial staff may be required.
- Performs detailed indexing of case files; drafting procedures for accomplishing litigation support assignments; document acquisition related tasks; screening for privilege documents; and conducting database searches
- Composes written documents in a concise and logical manner,
- Proofreads and edits written documents
- Reviews audio files for relevance and update databases with findings
- Prepares witnesses, exhibits and other evidence binders
- Receives and track discovery items
- Communicates with other DOJ components, Federal agencies and others as required during investigations and litigation
- Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents
- Summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files; performs simple legal research; indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery)
- Perform trial preparation tasks to include copying, document review, document organization, bates stamping, legal research and searching documents in Concordance/Summation
- During trial, assist with documents and indexes, tracks exhibits and other materials at depositions
- Utilize electronic and evidence management and discovery production processes and tools, such as Relativity, Casemap and Oncue, to support investigations
- Performs detailed reviews and analysis of case materials, which includes financial records, health care materials, and other litigation files

- Reviews search result sets for relevance based on written criteria
- Responds to citizen and congressional correspondence;
- Responds to citizen phone calls
- Utilize electronic and evidence management and discovery production processes and tools, such as Relativity, Casemap and Sanction, to support investigations
- Required to travel up to 50% of the time to aid with trial preparation
- Requires paralegal certificate, or JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience; or an equivalent level of education may be substituted
- Additionally, at least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (as related to the task order) is required; trial experience very helpful. At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
- Must have experience handling financial crimes/non-compliance cases.
- Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court system, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
- Requires excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
