Lake Superior Consulting is seeking an Associate Project Manager to join our team.

The Associate Project Manager supports planning and coordination of cross‑functional teams to achieve project success. This role applies technical expertise and project management fundamentals to establish an objective assessment of the project’s goals, requirements, and constraints. Executing project plans, monitoring project performance, and mitigating risk will be required daily. This role will partner with the Project Managers, Team Supervisor, and program director to manage relationships with clients.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Project Manager, Project Management Department and key stakeholders to
  • Develop proposals complete with cost and resource estimates.
  • Identify key deliverables and milestones.
  • Establish baselines for project Scope, Schedule, Resources, and Budget.
  • Develop and execute project management plans.
  • Support Project Manager to develop project charter, project work plans and kick‑off meetings.
  • Collaborate and assist Project Manager on assigned tasks.
  • Communicate project plans to teams and gain stakeholder buy‑in for successful execution of projects.
  • Provide support and frequent communication and guidance to project stakeholders.
  • Support the management of project plans (scope, deliverables, % work complete, budget and schedule).
  • Identify issues and risks, develop risk mitigation strategies, provide change management when necessary.
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional teams and Management for acceptable resource allocation.
  • Provide conflict management as necessary during key project decisions.
  • Facilitate Project Meetings; both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain Project Management tools such as action item log, transmittal log, change order log, decision log, etc.
  • Review project progress & risks to ensure milestones are being met.
  • Identify and estimate Change Orders.
  • Frequently gather & report Project Performance Metrics and Status Reports.
  • Ensure all OQ, Safety, and Quality requirements are met.
  • Provide oversight for Project Coordinators on sub‑projects or smaller, low‑risk projects.
  • Provide direct support to Project Manager and Program Managers for large, complex projects or programs.
  • Evaluate goals, objectives, and deliverables to meet final project requirements.
  • Evaluate project performance with an emphasis on final costs to complete, lessons learned and close‑out activities.
  • Work with Project Management Department on department goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
Position Requirements

Education, Certifications/Licenses,

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, project management, or related technical discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Project Coordinator (or equivalent experience) required.
  • Technical experience in a science or engineering related field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of project management concepts and tools with aspirations to further develop skills and knowledge base.
  • Strong desire to improve leadership skills, with a proven history of successfully leading projects.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects in a variety of locations and work environments.
  • Experience with developing and managing project schedules.
  • Sound financial skills, and the ability to interpret budgetary data.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to read/interpret basic technical information.
  • Working knowledge of applicable State and Federal regulatory requirements that govern the oil and natural gas pipeline industry (49 CFR Part 192 & 195) preferred.
Physical Requirements and Demands
  • Ability to work in an office environment where long hours of sitting may be required as well as travel to nonstandard workplaces to meet project and organizational requirements.
  • Ability to work a standard work week and meet requirements to work some evenings and weekends to meet project milestones and leadership responsibilities.
  • Ability to travel to the field 20% of the time for client meetings and project reviews.
