Job Summary

Cirrus Aircraft is currently seeking a Materials & Process (M&P) Laboratory Technician, to join a material fabrication and testing team in product development. The technician and load frame mechanical tester will lead key activities in development, certification, and production of aerospace material systems. Job title and pay at hire are dependent on overall experience and expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Ability to layup, bond, and assemble composite materials using a variety of mediums including prepregs and wet layup, and different material types including carbon fiber, fiberglass, and adhesives.
  • Proficient in the use of specifications, drawings, and verbal instructions to build and fabricate composite test panels
  • Strong creative mind that excels at solving problems and can successfully collaborate with a wide audience during the development of new technologies and designs.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to learn to use laboratory equipment such as load-frames, strain gauges, extensometers, microscopes, cure ovens, fume hoods, composite layup tooling, relevant software, etc.
  • Follow all safety standards and policies and ensure a safe operating environment, including use of appropriate protective equipment and identification of potential safety concerns.

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A two-year Associate's degree in Composites Technology is desired but not required.
  • 1 or more years of progressive experience with composite material fabrication and inspections within the aviation/aerospace industry, other relevant experience will be evaluated
  • Previous experience in a mechanical and / or chemical testing lab is required; load frame experience is desired. Official training or certifications as a mechanical testing load frame operator and test program writer is highly desired.
  • A solid understanding of how to fabricate and apply a wide variety of tools including hand tools and precision measurement tools is required. Experience with composite layup and basic machining is preferred.
  • Industry certificates considered a plus, including but not limited to ASTM Aerospace/Aircraft Assembly (AAA) NCAAT, FAA Aircraft Structural Repair / Maintenance Technician, or NACE Corrosion Technician certificate.
  • Cirrus M&P Technician Level at hire (1, 2, 3, or
    4) will be assessed based on directly relevant and overall work experience.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen.
  • Preference will be given to candidates actively pursuing and engineering degree
