Description Position Summary

The Machine Operator plays a key role in ensuring efficient production flow within the metal building insulation laminating operation. This position is responsible for the safe setup and operation of laminators and band saws, interpreting production work instructions to ensure all materials and processes meet customer specifications. The Machine Operator provides direction to General Laborers during machine setup and maintains accountability for production quality, documentation accuracy, and inventory control.

This role directly supports safe and continuous operations, production efficiency, and cost control through accurate material, waste, and productivity tracking.

Key Responsibilities
  • Machine Operation
  • Perform daily machine safety inspections and complete safety checklists.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance per schedule.
  • Accurately set up machines, including glue tab alignment, compression settings, glue and tape application, and run speed adjustments.
  • Operate laminators and band saws in accordance with established safety and quality standards.
  • Perform compliance testing, including glue application and compression recovery measurements.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including quantities produced, waste tracking, and downtime reporting.
  • Material Handling & Production Flow
  • Support truck loading and unloading as needed.
  • Ensure continuous laminator and band saw operations by staging and supplying materials in the correct order, quantity, and specification.
  • Oversee the safe and proper storage, labeling, and handling of all raw and finished goods.
  • Prepare, package, and process outgoing shipments in accordance with customer and carrier requirements.
  • Maintain efficient changeovers by confirming fiberglass insulation and facing materials are staged and ready before order transitions.
  • Accuracy & Documentation
  • Maintain accurate inventory records through regular physical counts and system updates.
  • Record all material movements within the ERP or inventory management system.
  • Conduct quality control checks to verify product specifications, labeling accuracy, and documentation completeness.
  • Maintain detailed records of third‑party audit results related to glue application and compression recovery measurements.
  • Safety & Equipment Operation
  • Ensure fiberglass insulation stacks are aligned and stacked straight to maintain stability and prevent tipping hazards.
  • Follow all safety protocols and promptly report any unsafe conditions or equipment issues.
  • Housekeeping & Support
  • Keep work areas, aisles, and storage zones clean, organized, and free from debris, empty pallets, or packaging waste.
  • Assist production and shipping personnel as needed to ensure on‑time order fulfillment and efficient workflow.
  • Handle any hazardous or special materials under supervision and in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision or management.
Requirements Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in manufacturing, warehouse, or material handling operations preferred.
  • Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Experience with fiberglass insulation, facing materials, or metal building insulation manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret work instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with inventory management systems.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and safely perform duties in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe, organized, and productive workplace.
Work Environment & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Work performed in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to fiberglass insulation materials and standard warehouse conditions.
  • Required PPE:
    Safety glasses and OSHA‑compliant safety‑toed footwear must be worn at all times in production and warehouse areas.
  • Optional PPE:
    Dust masks are available for use at the employee’s discretion.
  • Hearing protection is not required in this environment.
  • Position requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
