Position: Public Health Nurse at City of Little Rock Duluth, MN

Public Health Nurse (Full‑Time)

Location:

Duluth, MN – St. Louis County Public Health Division.

Position:
Public Health Nurse – full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, working in the Disease Prevention and Control unit. A flexible schedule is offered.

About the Division

St. Louis County Public Health Division promotes healthy people and communities through population‑focused programs, data‑driven decision making, and equitable health practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in coordination of immunizations, including messaging, outreach, and education.
  • Manage tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis infection cases.
  • Serve as liaison with school nurses; attend school nurse meetings and provide presentations to school nurses and students.
  • Communicate disease‑prevention and control topics to providers.
  • Provide public education on sexually transmitted infections, hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS.
  • Consult with physicians, Public Health and Human Services staff, and others on hepatitis C, HIV/AIDS, and other communicable diseases.
  • Assist with syphilis and hepatitis C testing.
  • Conduct assessments and reassessments, develop and implement care plans, and provide education, resources, and referrals to residents.
  • Participate in planning, implementation, and evaluation of public health nursing programs and local public health assessment and planning processes.
  • Assist in pilot projects and testing of new nursing concepts (Senior level).
  • Lead professional public health nursing services, including staff development and program piloting (Senior level).
Salary

Hourly rate: $31.08 – $44.20 (full salary range, including longevity pay).

Minimum Qualifications

Public Health Nurse (Pass/Fail)

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing with public health nursing preparation from an accredited institution.
  • Minnesota Public Health Nurse registration certificate.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Public Health Nurse Senior (Pass/Fail)

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing with public health nursing preparation AND at least 2 years of full‑time verifiable public health nursing experience, OR a master’s degree in nursing.
  • Minnesota Public Health Nurse registration certificate.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Note: Candidates may be considered for Public Health Nurse or Senior level contingent on qualifications and departmental need.

Eligibility and Licensing

Applicants must possess a Minnesota Public Health Nurse certificate or provide proof of application by the stated deadline. St. Louis County does not provide sponsorship for employment visas and does not participate in E‑Verify. Continuous authorization to work in the United States is required.

Physical and Medical Standards

Applicants must be able to perform essential functions, may require reasonable accommodation, and must pass a pre‑employment physical examination and drug test.

Probationary Period

Successful appointment requires completion of a six‑month probationary period before certification for permanent employment.
