Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Externship Opportunity at Nicollet Veterinary Clinic

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all have some common elements: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Responsibilities:

• Gather patient histories
• Perform physical exams
• Create treatment plans and diagnostics
• Offer dentistry services
• Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures
• Manage patients medically
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Eligibility: Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education, across all class years. Externship lengths range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.

Stipend: Eligible students receive a travel/living expense stipend of $1,000 for Nicollet Veterinary Clinic.
