Overview

UMD Dining Services provides diverse and high-quality dining options across campus, including Superior Dining, our all-you-care-to-eat residential dining center, and a Food Court with five unique concepts – Subs & Wraps, Burgers, Pizza, Burritos, and Grab & Go. We also operate Northern Shores Coffee Shop, two dining kiosks, and a full-service restaurant, along with catering services for campus events. Dining Services focuses on providing diverse food options, sustainability efforts, and quality service to the campus community.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for team oversight of set up, delivery, and execution of service
  • Operate a variety of equipment used in preparation, delivery, service of hot and cold foods and beverages
  • Organize and direct the team to meet standards and deadlines efficiently; provide excellent customer service by maintaining a professional, friendly and service‑oriented demeanor
  • Operate the POS system and comply with cash handling policies
  • Prepare items, set up, tear down, and clean up each meal period
  • Complete any cashier related reporting
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workplace and service areas; put away food and supplies
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly cleaning as assigned
  • Maintain timeliness of tasks concurrent with operation schedules and needs
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Adhere to food safety and sanitation standards to ensure the highest level of cleanliness and food quality

Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • At least 2 years of relevant experience or education in customer service or food service.
    • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
    • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the assignment.
    • Ability to interact in a public setting in a respectful and professional manner.
    • Cashier experience preferred but not required.
  • Preferred Skills
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 4 hours).
    • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
    • Experience in supervising or leading teams is a plus.
    • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Ability to make independent decisions regarding food quality and preparation.
    • Demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively manage a team and work collaboratively with others.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $22.79 – $25.47 per hour

Time Appointment: 100% (40 hours per week, 9‑month appointment)

Position Type: Civil‑Service & Non‑Faculty Labor Represented Staff
