Responsibilities
  • Analyze, diagnose, repair and maintain light, medium and heavy equipment
  • Perform skilled welding, fabrication, and repair of parts
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections on equipment
  • Maintain records of time, materials, supplies, etc.
  • Use required computer programs for repair tracking and diagnostics; operate with relevant onboard computers and diagnostic tools
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for Heavy Equipment Mechanic, applicants must meet the following:

  • Approximately 3 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, including diagnosis, repair, maintenance and modification of both heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment and gasoline-powered vehicles
  • Diagnosis and repair of mechanical and electronic control systems for engines, brakes, drive train, steering/suspension, and hydraulics
  • Experience using electronics to adjust engines, transmissions and brakes; ability to use computerized testing equipment and/or onboard computers

OR

  • Completion of Heavy Equipment Apprenticeship or graduation from a two-year Heavy Equipment Mechanic or related training program that included relevant diagnostics and electronics training
  • Training in use of computerized testing equipment and/or onboard computers
  • Licenses:
    Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Permit with ability to obtain Class A CDL with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction within 6 months of hire
  • Certifications:

    Valid Commercial Vehicle Inspectors Certificate within 12 months of hire

Misc.:
Mechanic must supply standard list of personal hand tools

Preferred Qualifications

Valid CDL Class A with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction at time of hire.

Physical Requirements

Work in a mechanic shop environment with tool carts, hoists, and equipment. Requires lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, with occasional heavier lifting. May involve working at heights, with power tools and heavy machinery. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
