Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Kivi Bros. Trucking, Inc. is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a trailer technician. This position will be based out of Duluth, MN.
Kivi Bros. Trucking, Inc. is proud to be a third-generation family-owned company that is based in Duluth, MN with an additional terminal in Harrodsburg, KY. We specialize in transportation of flatbed and step deck freight, end dump bulk commodities, logs. and over dimensional and heavy haul loads.
Under the supervision of the Manager of fleet maintenance or assigned supervisor, the Trailer Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of commercial trailers to ensure they meet DOT and company standards. This role focuses on diagnosing issues, completing preventative maintenance, and performing necessary repairs efficiently and safely.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair trailer components, including brakes, air systems, electrical wiring, doors, flooring, suspensions, and lighting.
- Perform preventative maintenance services on trailers, including lubrication, adjustment, and replacement of parts as needed.
- Complete pre- and post-trip inspections on trailers and document findings according to company and regulatory guidelines.
- Repair trailer frames, panels, roofs, and other structural elements as necessary.
- Ensure all repairs are performed safely and comply with DOT, OSHA, and company standards.
- Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records via electronic work order system.
- Collaborate with other technicians and supervisors to prioritize repairs and ensure efficient workflow.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Responsible for providing backup in processing payments and invoices for customers.
- Ensure compliance with internal accounting procedures.
- Maintain accurate records, including ledgers, journals, receipts, and invoices.
- Operate forklifts, jacks, lifts, and other shop equipment as needed.
- Assists in the training and education of new and existing employee’s by providing on the job training, general instruction, safety, monitors compliance with the company safety program and additional training as required.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Basic knowledge of trailer systems including air brakes, hydraulics, and electrical.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, drawings, and schematics.
- Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to use initiative and exercise sound independent judgement.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records.
- An ability to efficiently coordinate work assignments according to the locations and schedules of the driver and facility.
- Knowledge of equipment as it relates to truck driving.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, and the public.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to be flexible in adapting to changes in priorities, assignments and other interruptions that may occur.
- Ability to utilize the company’s computerized scheduling, database, word processing and email.
- Ability to work after hours or on weekends to fill in for staff when needed.
- Graduation with a high school diploma or equivalent; possess three years of experience in trailer maintenance and repair.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Fabrication experience in an industry setting preferred.
- Class B driver’s license.
- Previous experience in over-the-road trucking industry.
