About the Opportunity
We are seeking motivated individuals interested in building a career in
civil concrete construction
through our
On‑the‑Job Training (OJT) / Apprenticeship Program
. This position is ideal for applicants at all experience levels—from those new to the industry to individuals with foundational skills in equipment operation, concrete finishing, carpentry, or general concrete labor.
Trainees/Apprentices will work directly with experienced crews on active civil construction projects across Minnesota, gaining hands-on training in accordance with MnDOT OJT guidelines and internal workforce initiatives referenced in previous compliance planning communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with day-to-day construction activities on roads, bridges, walkways, and structural concrete projects.
- Learn proper use of heavy equipment, concrete tools, carpentry tools, and jobsite safety procedures.
- Support form setting, concrete placement, finishing, grading, and general labor.
- Follow direction from supervisors and journey-level workers to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Participate in structured on-the-job training designed to develop trade skills and promote career advancement.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment following OSHA and jobsite safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding labor.
- Willingness to learn new skills and follow instructions.
- Reliable transportation to project sites across the metro and other MN locations.
- Commitment to consistent attendance and a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Operating skid steers, excavators, loaders, or similar equipment
- Concrete handling, placing, and finishing
- Carpentry or form setting
- General civil or commercial construction labor
