Turner Industries Group is hiring Industrial Insulators for work in the St. Paul, MN area. Insulators cover boilers, pipes, tanks, and refrigeration units with insulating materials such as fiberglass, cork, plastic, and magnesia to reduce heat loss or absorption, prevent moisture condensation, and deaden sound.

Functional Requirements
  • Wire prefabricated fiberglass covering around steam and hot water piping.
  • Trowel mastic or brush cement on insulation to obtain a smooth finish and cover piping with cloth.
  • Fit thermo-block and magnesia-block insulation around insulating boilers, evaporators, and turbines.
  • Wire insulation on machinery and staple wire netting over insulation.
  • Trowel cement on wire netting to protect insulating material.
  • Wire cork on salt water, refrigeration, and air‑conditioning piping and cement cloth over insulating material to obtain a smooth finish.
  • Cut sheets of insulation into sections.
  • Fit and cement sections around fittings.
  • Cover gas piping of refrigeration or air‑conditioning systems with molded plastic.
  • Fabricate detachable insulation for valves or similar fittings.
  • Wire detachable covers on valves or fittings.
  • Install fiberglass or spun glass on ventilation systems to deaden sound and prevent vibration.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
Qualification Standards
  • High school or equivalent.
  • One to four years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level).
  • Basic knowledge of insulator hand tools, tape measure, cutting tools, and power tools.
  • NCCER certification may be required at some jobsites.
Physical Involvement
  • Climbing ladders, scaffolds, and structures above and below ground level.
  • Maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, and structures.
  • Reaching in all directions and manipulating objects and materials.
  • Coordinating the movements of eyes, hands, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
  • Lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, or overhead.
  • Carrying objects, tools, and equipment.
  • Standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting as required.
  • Seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.
  • Wearing a respirator and other PPE.
  • Using a stepstool.
  • Working in excessive heat, excessive cold, and loud environments.
Mental Involvement
  • Follow set procedures and standards.

  • Know federal, state, and company standards and regulations.
  • Read and write effectively.
  • Recognize and report safety hazards.
  • Interpret written plans and blueprints.

  • Remain calm under pressure and manage time and expectations across multiple projects.
  • Ensure that work is done consistently and in compliance with directions.
Work Environment Factors
  • Location:

    industrial maintenance and construction sites, pipe fabrication shops.
  • Mobility barriers to access job site: uneven ground level, obstructed pathways, work performed at low and/or high elevations, work performed in confined areas.
  • Climatic/environmental conditions at job site: predominantly outdoor climate; may be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc.; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment; potential exposure to chemical substances.
