Job Summary
The Social Work Coordinator provides training and guidance to new social workers, ensuring they develop the skills and knowledge needed for effective practice. This role includes offering case consultation and support, assisting with complex cases, and facilitating problem solving within the units. This coordinator also shares community and referral resources, helping to connect social workers to appropriate services for families. This position requires strong leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to best practices in social work.
This position is part of the Merit Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement Contract represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.
An employee in this class is responsible for providing social work services and technical expertise for a program area. Duties include providing social work services to cases involving social problems and social treatment plans; providing work direction, technical guidance, and performing limited supervisory duties for other social workers and paraprofessionals in social work functions; performing responsible and difficult casework; directing service programs;
ensuring quality control for social work practices within a program area. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

FREQUENT: Lift-push/pull while stationary up to 20 pounds; carry-push/pull while moving about up to 20 pounds; hearing close proximity (0-5 feet); maintain posture; reach; sit; static neck position; talk/speak; customer/public contact; clients with behavioral challenges.
OCCASIONAL: Hearing distance up to 20 feet; balance; move about; stand; taste/smell; walk; works alone; extended day; outside and drive.
RARE: Carry-push/pull while moving about up to 50 pounds; climb stairs.
Minimum Qualifications (Pass/Fail)- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology or closely related field AND two (2) years full‑time paid verifiable experience in social work; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in any field AND four (4) years full‑time paid verifiable experience in social work; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in social work, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, human services administration or closely related field AND six (6) months full‑time paid verifiable experience in social work.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Supplemental questions will comprise 100% of the scoring process. Points will be awarded based on the applicant’s answers to supplemental questions 8-11.
