Position Overview

Residential Transitions, Inc. (RTI), in partnership with Dakota County Community Corrections, is hiring for a part‑time Employment Support Specialist position supporting individuals with previous justice system involvement through the Employment Assistance Program (EAP). This position provides employment‑related support services to individuals referred by Dakota County Community Corrections who are working toward employment stability and successful community reintegration. The Employment Support Specialist delivers person-centered, culturally responsive services to help clients find and maintain employment while collaborating with county staff and community partners.

The role reports to the Program Manager and has no direct reports.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide employment support services to individuals referred by Dakota County Community Corrections through the Employment Assistance Program (EAP), primarily individuals with previous justice system involvement.
  • Assist clients in developing job readiness skills including resume writing, job applications, interview preparation, and strategies for job retention.
  • Deliver person-centered, culturally responsive services tailored to each client’s unique goals and circumstances.
  • Collaborate closely with county staff, program managers, and community partners to coordinate services and ensure continuity of support.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and detailed documentation of services provided, including client progress, service hours, and outcomes in compliance with county and contract requirements.
  • Participate in meetings, evaluations, and quality activities as required by Dakota County and RTI.
  • Support individuals in overcoming barriers to employment including mental health concerns, substance use challenges, and justice system involvement through community resource connections.
  • Ensure services are trauma-informed and delivered with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Transport clients as needed while maintaining all safety and insurance requirements.
  • Adhere to all background checks, licensing standards, and training requirements required by Dakota County and RTI.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and provide feedback to support program outcomes.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Prior experience supporting individuals with barriers to employment, mental illness, substance use disorders, or criminal justice involvement.
  • Exceptional communication, time management, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to pass Department of Human Services background checks.
  • Ability to pass BCA Criminal Background Check and required federal screenings.
  • Reliable transportation with valid driver’s license, insurance, and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability and willingness to transport clients when needed.
  • Strong alignment with RTI’s person-centered and culturally responsive service model.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability and documentation standards.
  • Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse populations.
  • Other duties as assigned as the program and role evolve.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Behavioral Sciences, or related field.
  • Experience providing employment services, case management, housing support, reintegration services, or community-based support programs.
  • Experience working with justice-involved populations.
