Job Overview
Routine correctional work supervising residents detained at the Arrowhead Juvenile Center (AJC), a facility licensed by the Department of Corrections. The role includes ensuring safety and security of the facility, juveniles, and staff, and counseling residents by modeling and teaching social skills, problem solving skills, and conflict resolution. Duties include direct care, supervising residents in a 24‑hour, 7‑day‑a‑week (including holidays) facility, performing security checks, managing crises and conflicts as they occur, documenting daily activities, medication delivery, providing transportation, and assisting residents develop life skills.
The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.
CONSTANT
:
Balance; coordination; smell; stand; walk; hearing; vision; work with others; clients with behavioral challenges; and shift work.
OCCASIONAL
:
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds; push/pull up to 50 pounds; crouch/squat; grasp/handle; kneel; reach above shoulder; rotate trunk; sit; and stoop/bend.
RARE
:
Crawl.
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Twenty‑one (21) years of age or older or between eighteen (18) and twenty‑one (21) years of age and enrolled or completed coursework in a postsecondary education program to pursue a degree in a behavioral science, according to Minnesota Statute .
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- One (1) year full‑time paid verifiable experience in a correctional facility, group home, behavioral health program, hospital security, treatment program, shelter, or a related field.

Probationary PeriodAppointees to the position must successfully complete a twelve‑month probationary period prior to being certified for permanent employment.
