This posting is a multi‑level posting for openings in the District 1 Pike Lake Truck Station. If positions are not filled by qualified applicants at the Transportation Generalist level, the positions will be filled at the Transportation Associate level.

The Transportation Associate is a trainee position. In this role we train you in our work and, with successful performance, will promote you to the Transportation Generalist job title/classification after one year of training. We help you obtain your CDL, all while earning pay and benefits!

The Transportation Generalist is the first level in our Transportation Specialist Series. These positions help maintain roads and keep communities traveling safely. In the summer we focus on maintenance and repair; in the winter we focus on snow and ice removal and other maintenance.

Below are some examples of typical work for both the Transportation Associate and Transportation Generalist roles. The actual day‑to‑day work will be assigned based on the project or immediate need.

• Maintain and reconstruct roadways, right‑of‑ways, roadway shoulders with gravel, bituminous, and concrete road surfaces; maintain traffic barriers; participate in bituminous road repair, culvert cleaning, and guardrail repair; maintain roadsides – install catch basins, place and remove Adopt‑A‑Highway bags, perform drainage and shoulder repair.
• Perform preventive maintenance on highway equipment and operate all tractor mowers and small rollers.
• Perform traffic control set‑ups in high volume traffic and ensure compliance with the Temporary Traffic Zone Layouts field manual.
• Perform landscaping duties – maintenance of trees, grass, shrubs, brush; planting, watering, seeding, sodding, trimming, and removal; including chipping of tree limbs, stump removal/grinding.

• Maintain roadways for snow and ice control: remove snow from roadways and shoulders, widen roadways of large accumulations, remove snow from rights of way or yards; apply anti‑icing and de‑icing chemicals; remove frozen ice and material from culverts; perform night or dawn patrols.
• Prepare and inspect winter equipment – maintain snowplow equipment, cutting edges and sanders; clean equipment post storm.
• Perform preseason snow route inspection and post‑storm cleanup, including sweeping of bridges, guardrails, sidewalks, crossovers, medians, ramps, and roadways.
