The Minnesota Department of Transportation seeks multiple openings at District 1, Nopeming Truck Station for Transportation Associate and Transportation Generalist roles. These positions help maintain roads and support safe travel for Minnesotans.

• Maintains and reconstructs roadways, right‑of‑ways, and roadway shoulders with gravel, bituminous, and concrete; maintains traffic barriers; participates in bituminous road repair, culvert cleaning, and guardrail repair; installs catch basins and performs drainage and shoulder repair.
• Performs preventive maintenance on highway equipment and operates all tractor‑mowers and small rollers.
• Performs traffic control set‑ups in high‑volume traffic and ensures compliance with Temporary Traffic Zone Layouts field manual.
• Performs landscaping duties, including maintenance of trees, grass, shrubs, brush; chrominating, watering, seeding, sodder, trimming, removal; chipping of tree limbs and stump removal.

• Maintains roadways for snow and ice control: removes snow from roadways and shoulders; opens and widens snow‑covered roads; applies anti‑icing and de‑icing chemicals; removes frozen ice and material from culverts; performs night or dawn patrols.
• Prepares and inspects winter equipment: maintains snowplow equipment, cutting edges and sanders; cleans equipment post‑storm.
• Performs preseason snow route inspection and post‑storm cleanup, including burning or hand sweeping of bridges, guardrails, sidewalks, crossovers, medians, ramps, and roadways.
• Maintains documentation on snow and ice data for accurate reporting of inventory and resource management.

Full‑time, year‑round position. Summer hours:
Monday‑Thursday 6:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with potential overtime or shift adjustments for emergencies. Winter hours:
Monday‑Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with possible nights, weekends, or holidays as required.

• One (1) year of experience in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signage, or related activities.
• Or a successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (≥ 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) with transcripts submitted.
• Valid MN Commercial Driver’s License Class “B” with tanker endorsement, no air brake restriction; ability to upgrade to Class A within 30 days of hire.
• Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information; communicate with others via two‑way radio; maintain routine logs and records.

Candidates who receive a contingent offer will take a computerized Math and Reading Assessment; passing scores:
Math level 3 or higher, Reading level 4 or higher. Drug and alcohol testing is required, including pre‑placement and ongoing testing. Background checks (criminal history, employment references, education/license verification, driver’s license check, and SEMA 4 records) are mandatory.

• Previous MnDOT experience as a Laborer, Transportation Associate, or Transportation Generalist.

Must work nights; may work outside exposed to weather; operate motor vehicle on and off‑road; walk on uneven ground; perform various body positions; operate machinery; move 50 – 70 lbs intermittently; wear PPE.
