Physical Therapy Tech - PRN (weekends) at Moore County Hospital District, Dumas, TX.

Summary of Primary Responsibilities

The rehabilitation technician is responsible for the daily maintenance of the physical plant including quality controls, daily cleaning, and laundry management while assisting with patient care. Skilled patient care duties include promptly preparing for patient treatment with treatment set‑up, notifying patient readiness, and assisting therapists and assistants in care under direct supervision. Non‑skilled care is provided through the optional maintenance program, nursing home restorative program, and nursing home maintenance mobility program following established protocols without direct supervision.

The technician must maintain compliance with the practice acts for physical therapy and occupational therapy, regulatory agencies, payer guidelines, and department policies and procedures at all levels of patient care. Responsibilities also include optimal patient care in a safe and appropriate manner, accurate documentation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and cooperative function within the department and the hospital district.

Summary of Secondary Responsibilities

The technician assists with all other aspects of department function once primary responsibilities are completed. These may include participation in quality control, performance improvement processes, staff development, compliance processes, program development, and assistance to other staff members for completion of their primary responsibilities.

Work Area Assignment

The technician will be assigned a varied work schedule that may include hospital‑based programs, outpatient clinic programs, or contract services. Hospital‑based programs include outpatient wound, inpatient acute (including wounds), outpatient nursing home, extended care, and home health. The outpatient clinic programs include adult and pediatric musculoskeletal and neurological programs. Contract services include school‑based programs. As additional programs are developed or transition to different sites, assignments may change.

All staff are expected to remain flexible and develop competencies in all areas within the scope of services.

Attitude and Behavior

The technician is expected to demonstrate professional attitudes and behavior, a proactive approach to conflict resolution and problem solving, and flexible cooperation within the hospital district.

Compliance

The technician must maintain compliance with the practice act for physical therapy as outlined by the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy examiners, regulatory agencies, payer guidelines, and MCHD policies and procedures during patient care.

Provision of Patient Care

The technician is expected to assist with all patient care in a safe, appropriate manner. Treatment and interaction must be age‑appropriate, diagnostic‑appropriate, and in compliance with the practice act, regulatory agencies, payer guidelines, and MCHD and department policies. Collaboration with other staff, other care providers, and patient education are included in the continuum of care. The technician must also provide patient status updates within and outside the hospital system.

Documentation

The technician is responsible for daily documentation of quality controls. Documentation for non‑skilled programs must be complete, timely, concise, and accurate in compliance with MCHD, MNRC, and department policies and procedures.

Qualifications
  • CNA certification preferred but not required upon hire; CNA license to be obtained within the first year of employment.
  • Basic keyboarding skills and word processing desirable.
  • Experience as a CNA preferred but not required.
  • Current Texas CNA license preferred but not required.
  • Documentation of the need for any accommodation required by ADA.
