Apprentice; 1st - 4th Year or Journey Line Worker - Dumas, TX

Position Summary

Apprentice (1st Year – 4th Year) or Journey Line Worker position for the Dumas, TX location. An apprentice lineman will be taught a rewarding career in constructing, maintaining, removing, and storm restoring high voltage distribution and transmission lines. The apprentice will be responsible for construction, maintenance and operations and will support maintenance and emergency repairs of distribution and transmission lines.

• High School diploma or GED
• Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL Class
  
  A) or ability to acquire it within 120 days of start date
• Successful completion of the EEI CAST Assessment
• Total commitment to safety, quality work and customer service
• Willingness to respond to after‑hour and weekend call‑outs
• Possible extended travel periods
• Attendance of 2nd, 3rd and 4th year apprentice schools
• Mental competency, ability to communicate and comprehend instructions, and ability to build on prior experience
• Teamwork attitude and ability to work with others
• Physical ability to lift and maneuver up to 90 lbs, climb wood poles up to 100', perform aerial work in a safety belt, use shovels, sledgehammers and 90‑lb jack hammers, work in confined areas
• Pass the federal DOT physical examination
• Submit a resume and complete all application questions
• Reside within 20 miles of the Dumas Service Center

• Successful score on the Journeyman Assessment
• Completion of an approved apprentice line program or 5 years of progressive electric lineman experience
• ClassA CDL
• Capability to perform all aspects of electric distribution overhead, underground, construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting
• Availability for emergency call‑outs per schedule
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Possible extended travel periods
• Physical fitness to lift up to 90 pounds, pass a physical examination and perform strenuous labor under all conditions
• Experience with bucket trucks, digger derricks, trenchers and groundwork with utility line crew
• High awareness of safety and compliance with company safety rules at all times
• Reside within 20 miles of the Dumas, TX service center
• Selection may include testing and/or assessment
• Pass Xcel Energy security and drug screening

• Anticipated starting base pay: $30.93 – $53.16 per hour
