Under the general supervision of the Transfer Station Facilities Manager, this position is responsible for performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties at the Transfer Station Facility in operations, maintenance, and repair activities. Also, responsible for complying with all safety rules and regulations related to Solid Waste.
PrincipalJob Duties Seasonal Laborer
- Perform manual labor, such as bailing material for recycling, trash removal, and washing facility equipment.
- Load and unload trucks or machinery.
- Assist the public in using the facility, specifically with recycling.
- Perform routine servicing of assigned equipment to ensure it is maintained in good working condition. Must be able to operate such equipment for duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
- May operate skid steer and other equipment as directed (with supervision).
- Perform routine building maintenance, grounds maintenance, and custodial work as required.
- Report present or anticipated problems in work areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Seasonal Laborer Education
Completion of high school or GED equivalent.
ExperienceRequires a level of knowledge and ability to handle basic principles and their application to tasks with limited assistance. Such a level is generally acquired with six (6) months of work experience as a laborer.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Static Strength — The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
- Multi-limb Coordination — The ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.
- Trunk Strength — The ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously, without fatigue.
- Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly move your hand, arm, or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
- Recognize Mechanical Problems — Proficient in recognizing mechanical problems and making minor repairs to equipment.
- Following Instructions — Able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions and perform manual labor for extended periods in all kinds of weather; effective written and oral communication; keeping others informed; and listening.
- Courtesy — Ability to maintain courteous and effective working relationships with the public, County departments, co-workers, and other agencies.
Special Requirements
- Must have a valid Colorado motor vehicle driver's license with no restrictions.
- Must have a working telephone (cell or home).
- Must pass a background check:
Criminal and Traffic. Conviction of a crime will not be an absolute bar to employment. - Must pass a drug test.
- Required legal authorization to work – United States citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.

- Stand for long periods, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands or arms. May walk, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crawl, or crouch. Must be able to perform tasks requiring extensive hand-eye coordination and operate a variety of machinery. Frequently lift and/or move objects ranging from 25 to 50 pounds. Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception;
Hearing: essential for safe performance. - Must be 18 years or older to operate most equipment.
Work is generally outdoors and exposed to various weather and non-weather conditions, temperature extremes, fumes, odors, dirt, dust, and wind. May involve operating equipment of varying sizes and moving quickly to avoid injury. Duties may require climbing and high attention during peak activity periods.
Health risks:
This position has been determined to be an EXTREME exposure risk to biohazards (blood-borne pathogens HIV, HAV, HBV) and TB. Protective equipment and clothing are provided; inoculation may be required. Documentation of vaccines may be requested. Employees who decline vaccination may need to sign a declination form.
