Job Description IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:

Building Principal

FLSA STATUS:

Exempt

EMPLOYMENT TERM:

Minimum 240 days annually

SALARY:

Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Kanawha County Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level

EVALUATION:

Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310 and KCS G48A.

JOB SUMMARY:

To coordinate the implementation and monitor the curricular and instructional programs of the school.

SUPERVISES:

Counselors, teachers, student teachers, secretary, aides, custodians, cooks and v v45+1olunteers.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (In accordance with WV Code §18A-2-9) INSTRUCTION
  • 1) Assists staff in the development of an instructional program that provides for various student levels, interests and learning styles.
  • 2) Implements a procedure for instructional placement of new enrollees.
  • 3) Follows the mandated instructional time allocations.
  • 4) Supports the use of varied instructional strategies.
  • 5) Encourages the use of instructional technology.
  • 6) Encourages the use of multiple procedures for the evaluation of student achievement.
  • 7) Evaluates instructional programs periodically and utilizes results in planning.
  • 8) Implements a system to monitor student progress.
  • 9) Assists in supervising the implementation of the Programs of Study.
  • 10) Demonstrates knowledge of child growth and development.
  • 11) Assists in the design and implementation of an effective scheduling procedure.
  • 12) Informs the community of existing instructional programs and activities.
  • 13) Works with faculty to plan and implement staff development programs.
  • 14) Upgrades professional skills annually.
CURRICULUM
  • 15) Coordinates the textbook utilization process.
  • 16) Recommends alternatives and/or changes needed in curriculum to best meet the needs of students.
  • ) Assists in developing guidelines for scheduling students.
  • 18) Assists in the design and implementation of an effective scheduling procedure.
  • 19) Assumes special project assignments.
  • 20) Works with faculty to plan and implement staff development programs.
  • 21) Manages the special education process.
  • 22) Works cooperatively with central office, feeder high schools and the business community in establishing and monitoring programs of study.
  • 23) Works cooperatively with high schools in developing and articulating agreements to support career clusters/majors.
  • 24) Stays current with research and development in trends for education and career development locally, nationally and internationally.
ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS AND FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
  • 25) Demonstrates good judgment and decision making skills.
  • 26) Interprets and implements board and state policies.
  • 27) Provides efficient organization for daily school operations.
  • 28) Communicates information, policies, and procedures to students.
  • 29) Communicates regularly with school support organizations (PAC, PTA, Athletic Boosters, etc.).
  • 30) Recognizes student and staff contributions and accomplishments.
  • 31) Participates with staff in the development of continuing education programs based on school needs.
  • 32) Follows the established evaluation procedures for evaluating all school staff.
  • 33) Utilizes self-appraisal for the improvement of administrative skills.
  • 34) Accepts assignments and completes reports.
  • 35) Assists in the supervision of extra-curricular/after hour's school activities.
  • 36) Accepts other duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a and §18A-2-9.

  • 1) Valid teaching certificate.
  • 2) Master's degree.
  • 3) Minimum of five (5) years of secondary experience.
  • 4) Experience in workshop and staff development organization, development and implementation
  • 5) Extensive knowledge of high school philosophy and supporting research
  • 6) Knowledge and training in vertical teaming.
  • 7) Training in such areas as cooperative learning, TESA, instructional strategies, etc.
  • 8) West Virginia administrative (principal's) Certificate of Eligibility.
  • 9) Attended Leadership Academy, or agree to participate in the next scheduled session.
