Reporting to the Director of Public Works and Engineering, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing capital projects, development servicing, asset management, mapping, and directing the work of Engineering Division staff.
The City of Duncan invites applications from candidates with the proven skills, qualifications, and abilities for the permanent full-time position of Manager of Engineering. Duncan is a small city with a strong sense of community and a commitment to being welcoming, diverse, creative, environmentally sustainable, and resilient. This excluded position offers a wage of $98,000 to $113,000 depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities- Oversee capital projects and development servicing for the City of Duncan.
- Direct the work of Engineering Division staff and coordinate a team of technical staff and contractors.
- Maintain asset management and mapping for municipal infrastructure.
- Engage with the public in construction project management and interact with surrounding local governments, First Nations, the Province, and other groups as needed.
- Apply knowledge of civil engineering, asset management, and project management to municipal initiatives and public realm projects for the benefit of residents, businesses, and visitors.
- Exercise sound judgement in meetings and dealings with external parties; lead in a unionized environment.
- Define problems, develop research methods, analyze data, and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Degree in Engineering or Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related field.
- Minimum five years of experience in municipal engineering; BC experience preferred.
- Membership or eligibility for membership with Engineers and Geoscientists BC or Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC.
- Strong working knowledge of BC legislation, regulations, and procedures relating to development and subdivision, including works & services and development cost charge bylaws.
- Ability to strategically coordinate a team of technical staff and contractors; strong leadership and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to engage the public in construction project management and work with diverse stakeholders respectfully.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision when necessary.
