Divisions

Deputies can be assigned to several different divisions within the department. None of these division assignments are guaranteed, but expressed interest in a particular division will be considered upon recruitment.

Patrol

The patrol division of the Sheriff’s Office comprises of deputies who will ultimately be patrolling the rural areas of our county and responding to calls for service in those areas. In addition to that, patrol deputies will be watching for traffic violations and conducting traffic stops throughout these areas.

Reserves

Reserve deputies are individuals who typically hold full-time jobs elsewhere, but volunteer some of their down time to the sheriff's office. Reserve deputies are called out when major incidents occur to help with the processing of crime scenes, or simply to supplement patrol while others work the incident. They also come out to events around the county, such as fairs and festivals, along with patrol to saturate the event with law enforcement presence.

Reserve deputies are unique, in that they can simply plug into any one of the many divisions at the sheriff's office and assist as needed. Our reserves are a critical part of our infrastructure, and they are deeply appreciated.

School Resource Officer (SRO)

Deputies assigned to our school resource officer division will be assigned to and contracted to a school district in the county. Deputies will assume the responsibility of providing tactical security for the school and provide insights to school administrators on how to improve school security. Deputies will receive additional training specific to this assignment to improve their understanding of their role at the school and to execute the performance of that role in the most effective way possible.

Courthouse Security

The courthouse is monitored and protected by the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Courthouse Security Division, where deputies are stationed at the front doors of the courthouse and perform routine metal detection of incoming visitors and property x-rays of visitor's belongings. Deputies assigned to this division will learn to examine x-ray imagery and be able to identify potential threats to the security of the courthouse.

Deputies will also assist detention center staff in escorting prisoners to and from courtrooms for court proceedings. Above all else, deputies remain vigilant and watchful of their surroundings and addressing any threats they might identify.

Transport

The transportation division is a vital part of the department as it relates to bringing offenders to justice. Offenders that commit crimes in Stephens County may not stay very long and instead flee to other areas…
