The Armed Security Officer protects personnel and property within the DRH Health system and seeks to prevent criminal and destructive activity and correct hazards and unsafe conditions. Must have the ability to interact appropriately with all team members (including administrative and physician/providers), patients, and visitors under difficult circumstances. Assists DRH team members with combative patients or visitors.

Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
  • Respond promptly to service requests, emergency codes, urgent situations, internal/external disaster events, and other security-related tasks as needed.
  • Serve as a visible deterrent to criminal activity, protecting and patrolling hospital buildings, assets, and premises as assigned.
  • Conduct frequent security patrols of the facilities and grounds, ensuring all property and facilities are secure.
  • Detect and take proper action regarding unauthorized or illegal entry.
  • Inspect facility property for hazards or unsafe conditions and report issues or concerns to Facilities.
  • Identify and report trends related to security issues to the Manager.
  • Demonstrate competence with handgun, taser, body cam, radio, handcuffs, duty phone, and other law‑enforcement tools.
  • Conduct preliminary investigations of reported incidents, taking initial information for an incident report, using proper grammar, spelling, punctuation, and reporting facts only.
  • Prepare written reports on calls for service and unusual occurrences.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and knowledge of network security monitors and monitor live cameras as needed.
  • Control pedestrian and vehicular traffic when needed and provide public services such as motorist and patient assistance, escorts to vehicles, and enforce facility parking through patrols, towing, and explanations of rules.
  • Respond to the collection, inventory, and return of lost and found items, patient valuables, medication, and personal property according to policy.
  • Assist team members at the helipad during emergencies, patient transfers, application of medical restraints, and with disruptive patients and guests when requested.
  • Remain alert at all times and make immediate decisions with regard to laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Listen and respond appropriately using tact and discretion, distributing confidential and sensitive information or documentation.
  • Be flexible and available based on staffing requirements that may include weekends, holidays, on‑call, and overtime.
  • Wear uniforms in accordance with the dress code requirements.
  • Deliver various medical equipment as needed throughout the hospital system.
  • Complete special projects and assignments designated by the Security Manager.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
  • Appropriately adapt assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the physical, cultural, age‑specific, and other developmental needs of each person served.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities, including internal and external educational offerings.
  • Complete basic incident command training and coursework.
  • Use assistive devices for lifting—mandatory.
  • Per DRH policy, meet all required conditions of employment, including required vaccinations.
  • Undergo respirator and fit testing as required for protection against airborne infectious diseases, droplet‑producing procedures, or caustic chemicals.
  • Adhere to and promote safety protocols at all times.
  • Implement DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Meet state requirements for owning/carrying a firearm.
  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • Pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Be able to handle urgent and crisis situations calmly, effectively, and efficiently.
